November Updates

Dear artist friends,

This month I would like to focus on a new opportunity the HGC Board of Directors is creating. The new Member Grant Program will offer up to two grants of up to $500 each per year to HGC members to aid in the development and growth of their craft. While the monetary benefit will be to the artist(s) who receive the grants, there will also be a benefit to the Guild as a whole in that recipient(s) of the grant(s) will give a presentation at a general meeting detailing how the money was spent, and how the grant has benefitted the member’s art. Possible uses for grants include classes, tools, booth display items, filing for an LLC, attending a conference, etc.

Applications for the Member Grant Program will include an artist statement; the amount requested; a statement of how the grant will be use and how it would benefit the artist’s craft and/or business; and photos of the artist’s work. Criteria for awarding grants include a complete application based on the criteria outlined in the application materials; seriousness of the request, i.e. the grant cannot be spent frivolously; the artist’s activity level within the Guild; whether the requestor has previously received a grant, i.e. all other factors being equal, first-time applicants will be given preference over artists who have previously received a grant. Applications will be reviewed by the Board members and voted on during Board meetings. Votes will be recorded in the minutes of the meeting in order to maintain transparency.

The application process will open in January, decisions will be announced in March each year. Look for more information in January.

The other exciting news this month is that our Holiday Show is only days away. Thank you to the many volunteers who are helping to make the show a success. Here’s a pertinent thought as you make final preparations for the show: “Art isn’t optional for humans.” (John Green) Best of luck to all the artists who will be exhibiting. May it be a profitable and enriching show for everyone!
