June Updates
Dear artist friends,
It’s been an exciting spring. The next installment of “What is HGC up to Now?” is ready to be revealed. We are beginning a new partnership with the Havertown Library. The newly remodeled and updated facility located at 1601 Darby Rd in Havertown is a sight to behold. But what makes it special for HGC and our membership? There is now a dedicated crafting space in the library where children and teens (and, yes, adults) can take classes and work individually on arts and crafts. The library is already working with HGC leadership to schedule a beading workshop for children and teens, and a fused glass workshop for teens.
The Maker Space includes worktables for crafting, several Cricut machines, several 3D printers, a laser cutter, and computer terminals dedicated to learning design programs. Best of all, use of the Maker Space is free and open to the public – not just residents of Haverford Township or even Delaware County, but the general public. The only cost is for materials for the 3D printers supplied by the library. Maker Space staff will be happy to teach you how to use the equipment.
Join us at the Havertown Library for our June general meeting, which will include a tour of the new library facility, focusing on the Maker Space and meeting and teaching spaces. We will gather in the lobby of the library at 7:00 pm on June 17th to meet the library staff responsible for the Maker Space, then off to the crafting area and other facility highlights.
The Havertown Library is fully accessible with a ramp from the sidewalk to the main entrance and an elevator serving all three floors of the building. We look forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
Brian Middleton, President
