October Updates
Dear artist friends,
We are shaking it up this time, and you’re hearing from me – Hali MacLaren, your Membership Secretary—instead of our generous, and fearless President, Brian Middleton. At our latest Board meeting, Brian had a wonderful idea to alternate who writes the welcome sequence in our Monthly Gazette so you can get to know us all a little better! Going forward, different board members will take turns writing for the Gazette, sharing a little encouragement and tidings for the month ahead, so here it goes!
This week marks the one-month-away craziness I begin to feel as our annual show approaches. Since my first of 5 holiday events starts on the 7th of November in Cape May, I am running out of time to prepare! I’ve only recently learned that the holiday season is a real marathon for jewelers, and I am sure many other makers who schlep and show their work feel similarly. I suppose I am still figuring out the right schedule and rhythm for making, photographing, marketing, displaying, selling, packing, shipping, rejoicing and finally, resting during the holidays. But with this all in my mind as I frantically plan out my holiday to-do’s, I remind myself how lucky I am to get to make such special trinkets for folks. How grateful I am that other humans want to own, gift, and wear my work close to their hearts. How special this time of year can be, when we get to hear stories from our customers of where our work will live on in its next chapter, and what it means to them. I hope that each of you practices noticing these same blessings this season, because your work as an artist is essential to your well-being and the well-being of our world.
In the words of Brian Middleton from our last Gazette, “May you always be in touch with your heart and your art. May you always be not just artists, but heart-ists.”
Don’t forget, we are all in this little community of ‘heart-ists’, and may we continue to work hard and push through the final quarter of 2026 with proud hands and hearts together!
