About Me
I received a B.S. degree in Art education with a minor in Painting from Moore College of Art. While at Moore, I took a class in Ceramics and swore I would never touch clay again. Thirty-three years later I took a tile and mosaic course to learn how to make translucent porcelain tiles to use in stained-glass windows I was making at the time and became hooked on working in porcelain, stoneware and Raku clays. I believe in reinvention – back to design, color and experimentation in clay, glass, metal, plastic, and natural fibers. Alternative firing soon became another love of mine, becoming completely absorbed by the range of techniques that can be used and still experience serendipitous results from each process. Every Raku piece I make is hand-built, glazed, hand-pulled from the fire and then reduced in a sand pit or can, or oxidized to produce varying results in the glazes. I continuously experiment with under and over glazes, masking, scrafito, photo silkscreen, and mixed media, introducing natural forms like bark, leaves, seeds, nuts, plus wires, and plastic. I enjoy the interplay of light in, around and going through my pieces with natural and modern themes. I try to work with the idea of groups of pieces being” similar, but different”.
