About Me
The Wooden Head came to life in 2016 when I expanded from designing and building individual gifts for friends and family to something more wide ranging. Working with wood had always been a very enjoyable hobby but it seemed time to stretch my creativity and follow an unfamiliar path. What kind of a journey would The Wooden Head take me on?
The Wooden Head has changed in a few ways since 2016. First, I developed my own proprietary finishing technique. Even though each box has three coats of finish, they look and feel as if they have none. This way my customers feel the wood, not the finish. Secondly, I added a Glow Forge allowing me to engrave.
The ability to customize and personalize boxes was a true turning point for The Wooden Head. I do a lot of work for military families, all of which is sold at or below cost. I have also done a significant amount of work for people who have lost loved ones (people and pets). These kinds of projects are very special to me. They allow me to connect at some personal level with the people who come to my shop. I put that connection to work when I design and build.
The feedback I received from customers tells me I am heading in the right direction. I still get a great deal of satisfaction when somebody purchases a piece to use, or to give as a gift. However, and most unexpectedly, I truly enjoy the opportunity to help people who come to my shop looking for something special that will honor a loved one or help them cope with a loss. I did not anticipate this part of The Wooden Head journey, but it feels right. It feels like I have found the place I need to be.
