My philosophy is to create a dichotomy of natural wool and geometrical concepts. I pull inspiration from my architecture education, Sean Scully’s color studies, Yayoi Kusama’s dots, cultures of the world and nature when I design. The Organic lines of wool are interrupted with fine geometric concepts. The 56 natural shades of wool are combined with colored yarn to create endless variation of combinations. My “Shape of Ideas upon a Cloud” hat won the first prize at Philadelphia Plastic Club’s exhibit.

In the world of artificiality and extravagant use of resources, I use natural alpaca yarn, both sustainable and renewable. Besides alpaca I use yarn from my left over leather scarps. Vintage sweaters and ties are used as additions to accent my accessories.

I use Adobe Creative Suit to sketch my designs, but prefer to use traditional techniques like knitting, and crocheting, to create these unique wearable art pieces for humans, their babies and their 4-legged friends.

Note from the applicant:

Thank you for the email. I would appreciate all the constructive reviews of course. But specifically, I would like help on how to successfully present my fiber art for holiday market.

I applied to the Haverford holiday market 2 years ago I was rejected because jurors didn’t think I knit them. This year I applied again and rejected again with review points of 2.89. Juror #1 thought my art was fine. Juror #2 said the plant in the photo should disappear. Juror #3 said jewelry and fiber art don’t match. I thought jewelry should be done by me but not necessary match my craft. I believe it was you who recommended the pier review. (sorry I lost the email but think it was Christine). So I am looking forward to pier review so that I can be accepted next year.

  1. Love the palette, the way you bring unexpected scale to what are usually small stitches, and the different textures you achieve with the alpaca. Watch the focus on your photos, the hand warmer shot is blurry. I also enjoy Kusama’s dots!
